Professional Experience |
Assigned to the Water Management Research Unit at Fort Collins, Colorado. Conducted applied and basic research to develop improved water and chemical management systems and irrigation system designs. Field of research covers critical problem area of irrigation water and chemical management in a precision farming context, including crop water use, water movement in soils, agricultural chemical leaching, water-energy relationships, surge irrigation, and research instrumentation. Conducted basic and applied research in water quality, drainage and irrigation management for 39 years, 35 of those as an Agricultrual Engineer with USDA-ARS. Published 135+ technical articles, 36 of which resulted from graduate student research which he substantially directed. Authored 13 technical reports for contractual research and authored or coauthored four book chapters and more than 65 technical presentations. Reputation as an irrigation engineer is demonstrated by frequent requests for consultation from ARS and University scientists, numerous governmental agencies, international agencies, and by responsible assignments with and recognition by professional organization. Advice is sought throughout the U.S. and internationally in the areas of irrigation water, chemical, and energy management, soil water flow measurements and electronic and computer applications. |
