Dr. Hoagland’s research includes discovering and developing biological agents for more efficient, safe, and less costly control of weeds. He conducts physiological and biochemical investigations to discover 1) biochemical mechanisms of weed resistance and susceptibility to plant pathogens and microbial phytotoxins; 2) mode and mechanisms of action of phytotoxins and other biologically active compounds on hard-to-kill weeds and associated crops; 3) interactions of herbicides and other chemicals to alter weed pathogen efficacy.
