Current Research Projects:

Dr. Widmer’s program focuses on the process of converting citrus waste to ethanol so that it can be economically feasible.  In this process, limonene, a high value co-product, can be recovered from citrus peel, lowering the production costs. Dr. Widmer served on a study team that identified and established the substance in grapefruit juice that causes potentially dangerous interactions with specific medicines.
