Research Project: Poulry Litter Fertilization on Muscadine Grape 'Carlos' Performance

Location: Southern Horticultural Research

Project Number: 6404-21430-001-07
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 10, 2009
End Date: Apr 09, 2011

Objective:
The objective of this research is to compare efficiency and effectiveness of organically certified poultry litter fertilization with conventional mineral fertilization.

Approach:
The cooperator maintains an established vineyard of ‘Carlos’ muscadine grapes for wine processing. USDA will apply the pasteurized pelletized poultry litter (PPPL) to the vineyard. One rate will be equivalent to the mineral fertilization (N) applied by the grower. The grower will maintain the entire field as he normally would, documenting any activity administered to the treatment plants. Plant health, fruit quality, and yields will be assessed.
