2011 Annual Report 1a.Objectives (from AD-416) The objective of this research is to compare efficiency and effectiveness of organically certified poultry litter fertilization with conventional mineral fertilization. 1b.Approach (from AD-416) The cooperator maintains an established vineyard of ‘Carlos’ muscadine grapes for wine processing. USDA will apply the pasteurized pelletized poultry litter (PPPL) to the vineyard. One rate will be equivalent to the mineral fertilization (N) applied by the grower. The grower will maintain the entire field as he normally would, documenting any activity administered to the treatment plants. Plant health, fruit quality, and yields will be assessed. 3.Progress Report This is the final report. The study was executed as planned and proceeded through the FY 2010 year. Yet as noted in the last annual report, the plants suffered from decreased vigor, and noticeable chlorotic symptoms. The Cooperator requested that the treatments be terminated to save his plants. Thus for the current year there are no updates. Data was taken and samples were collected in 2010. Most have been evaluated, but some still await repair of an instrument. The ADODR or his representative meets regularly with the cooperating scientist, and these meetings include site visits.
