Research Project: PLANT GERMPLASM AND TECHNOLOGY EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CHINA

Location: Tropical Crops and Germplasm Research

Project Number: 6635-21000-050-05
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 03, 2010
End Date: Mar 02, 2015

Objective:
To establish research collaboration in plant germplasm and technology exchange that is mutually beneficial in the evaluation, characterization, identification and preservation of cultivated and indigenous plant genetic resources.

Approach:
ARS and the Cooperator will exchange propagating material (true seed, budwood)of tropical and subtropical crops following recommended phytosanitary procedures, including quarantine. Materials will be increased in the greenhouse or field for future testing and evaluation for specific traits(e.g. disease resistance, enhanced yield and fruit quality)of interest or as commercial cultivars. DNA fingerprinting work will be conducted to assess genetic diversity. GRIN training will be provided if deemed necessary by both parties.
