Citation: Dodson, M.V., Wei, S., Duarte, M., Du, M., Jiang, Z., Hausman, G.J. 2012. Cell supermarket: Adipose tissue as a source of stem cells. Journal of Genomics. 1:39-44.

Interpretive Summary: Fat tissue comes from numerous sources and is the source of other types of cells. Fat tissue-derived cells may form cells that may be useful for solving human health and agriculture problems. It is important that emphasis be placed on this area of fat tissue research so we can realize it’s full potential.

Technical Abstract: Adipose tissue is derived from numerous sources, and in recent years has been shown to provide numerous cells from what seemingly was a population of homogeneous adipocytes. Considering the types of cells that adipose tissue-derived cells may form, these cells may be useful in a variety of clinical and scientific application. The focus of this paper is to reflect on this area of research and to provide a list of potential (future) research areas.
