Technical Abstract: Advances in the areas of enzymes and biomass processing are necessary in order to lower the cost of fuel and chemical production from biomass. Recent developments in biomass conversion enzymology and process technology will be reviewed. Current problems of these multi-enzymes based complex processess, economic assessment, regulatory issues, strategies for development of improved enzymes and processes, and directions of future research will be discussed. Results of our endeavor to develop novel enzymes for biomass conversion will be presented.
