Technical Abstract: Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that is made from transesterification of vegetable oil, animal fat or other lipid feedstocks with a simple alcohol such as methanol. Biodiesel may be blended with jet fuel (JP-8) to reduce dependence on petroleum imports and improve ground-level emissions. Biodiesel increases freezing point and other low-temperature flow properties in blends with JP-8. Other technical concerns include storage stability, emulsifiability and hydrolytic degradation from contact with moisture. This study examines potential impacts of blending with biodiesel on these important performance parameters when JP-8 fuel is blended with biodiesel from soybean oil (SME).
